10 Daily Habits To Boost Your Confidence

One of the biggest struggles people fear in life is the inability to succeed and the belief that we can’t accomplish our goals.  Or, perhaps it is a fear of failure and the belief that we aren’t good enough.  All of these beliefs are simply tricks the brain likes to play on us.  They are irrational beliefs that cause us to look down on ourselves and to hide in the shadows.  They are the negative beliefs that cause us to steer clear of our full potential.

Now, do all people have these beliefs all the time?  Not necessarily.  Perhaps you’re the type of person that believes strongly in themselves on a day to day basis.  Or perhaps you feel good about yourself every once and awhile, like when you get a promotion or do a nice thing for someone.  Or, you’re the latter – you’re the type of person who struggles to hold their head high on a regular basis.  Whatever the case, there is always room to improve your self-worth and confidence.  Hence, this article is going to provide you with 10 daily tricks that will help to increase your overall confidence and make you feel good about yourself every single day.

1.) Be Grateful

This one is a given.  It has been studied and reported that those individual’s who identify what they are grateful for on a day to day basis tend to have better moods and increased self-esteem.  Professionals suggest that making a list (whether it be a mental or written down list) of a few things you are grateful for each day can boost confidence.  You can do this either when you wake up in the morning, before you go to bed, or even both!  It’s been studied that when you identify what you are grateful for, it boosts serotonin levels in the brain and therefore makes you happier.  And when you’re happy, you tend to be a little more confident about taking on the day.

2.) Write 5 Things You Love About Yourself On The Bathroom Mirror

This one may sound kind of silly, but writing 5 things that you love about yourself on a mirror every once and awhile can remind you about your positive qualities.  Especially on the days you’re feeling low, this is a good way to help perk yourself back up again.  Some of you may be thinking, “I don’t want to ruin my mirror and write on it.”  And if that’s the case, don’t worry, I’m going to cover that.  You can either buy washable markers that are specifically used on mirrors (you could find these at a craft store, home depot, target, etc) or you could simply use post-it notes.  Simply write your 5 things on a sticky note, put it on your mirror and you’re good to go.  It’s something you will see every day as a reminder of how great you are!  You can use the same qualities each time or feel free to mix it up whenever you think about another one of your amazing qualities.   Just make sure you look at it each day before leaving your home.

3.) Repeat A Phrase Or Quote

Find a phrase or quote you like that may help to get you motivated.  Sometimes, if you find a phrase that is meaningful to you or touches you in some way, this can also help to boost confidence.  If you’re struggling throughout the day, repeat the phrase to yourself as many times as needed to help challenge any negative thoughts that enter your mind.  Think of it as your own personal mantra and a way to combat the challenges that the day may throw at you.

4.) Dress Nice

Sometimes to feel good about ourselves it can help to dress up or wear a favorite shirt once and awhile.  Do your best every day to plan each outfit you’re going to wear throughout the week.  Planning either the night before or the week before can help decrease any stress the next morning.  We’ve all had that day where we wake up and are running late and we simply grab the first thing we see in the closet.  usually, when we do this we don’t typically feel our best, right?  When you plan to wear a nice outfit ahead of time it gives you something to look forward to.  Not only that, but it makes you feel like you’re starting the day fresh and clean too.  It can be a great way to help keep your head up.

5.) Do A Nice Deed

Another thing that can help boost confidence is allowing yourself to find one good deed that you can do each day.  It can be from something as small as holding a door for someone, smiling at a stranger walking by, or helping someone to carry their groceries.  Whatever it may be, if the opportunity to do something nice for someone arises, jump on that chance.  It will make you feel good knowing you are helping someone in need and it even boosts the oxytocin (which is a happy neurotransmitter) in the brain.  It has good benefits all around!

6.) Set Small, Achievable Goals

Every day try to set a small yet achievable goal for yourself.  This could be something from a task at work you needed to get done, a 20-30 minute workout, or even just setting a time aside to relax.  When you set a goal and accomplish it, this has a powerful effect on your mood and overall well-being.  It’s a great way to feel good about yourself for achieving something and for sticking with it.  It also helps to make the goal a small goal so that it is easily attained and does not cause any frustration or further stress.

7.) Change A Small Habit

Maybe you’ve wanted to stop a certain habit, but it seems overwhelming to accomplish.  For instance, perhaps you want to stop smoking or stop having an extra glass of wine or two at night.  While it’s great that you want to stop those larger habits, try to make changes by focusing on a small habit to change.  For instance, maybe you want to wake up 10 minutes earlier each morning to return some emails.  Or perhaps you want to drink more water throughout the day.  If you change one of these small habits, this can make you feel better about yourself for doing it and sticking to a routine.

8.) Learn Something New Each Day

Another great way to boost your confidence is to learn something new each day and gain new knowledge.  Ever hear the expression, “knowledge is power?”  There’s a reason for that phrase and that is because it’s true. When you feel powerful, you feel confident at the same time.  Learning something new each day can also help you to feel more confident speaking to others.  This can be of benefit because it may help to spark up a conversation with someone or perhaps it can help you teach a concept to a colleague or friend.  When you do these things, you end up feeling good about yourself and you’ll feel competent on a regular basis.  So perhaps read an online article each day or look up something you’ve always be interested in.  Simply take 5-10 minutes a day to fill your brain with new knowledge and substance.  It won’t be something you regret.

9.) Be Active

This is probably going to sound like an obvious one, but make sure you find time in each day to be active.  Not saying you need to run 10 miles each day, but at least take 30 minutes out of each day to get up and move.  This could be anything from walking outdoors during your lunch break, running on the treadmill at the gym, or even doing a few push-ups.  Whatever you choose, just make sure you get your body moving each day.  Not only is it good and important for your physical health, but it will also improve your mood through the release of endorphins (which are an important chemical in the brain that boosts happiness).

10.) Have A Positive Mindset

The last important habit that can help boost your confidence is trying to keep a positive mindset.  You’re probably thinking, “sure, easier said than done.”  It may sound hard to do at first, but the more you practice it, the easier it will become.  Let’s say you spill coffee on your shirt in the morning.  Instead of griping about it and getting upset, try to stay positive and just change your shirt.  Have an attitude of, “Well, maybe I was supposed to wear the blue shirt instead” rather than, “this is going to ruin my whole day!”  A change of attitude and perception is all it takes to improve confidence and your day.  Not to mention, you’ll be proud of how you handled a situation and this will boost your mood.  Even be positive with how you act.  A person with a positive energy is the kind of person want to be around.  Not only will it put you in a better mood, but it will put those around you in a better mood too.  Now who wouldn’t want that?

So what are you waiting for?  Whether you decide to use all of these techniques every day or you just choose to use one or two, just get out there and do it.  Turn your day around, hold your head up high, and be happy on a regular basis.  Trust me, the old you will thank you!
